"Materialism vs. Happiness"
Happy “Self-Love” Tuesday – Morning sisters; I pray everyone had a restful night. I went to bed early last night, as I was feeling a little under the weather, but thanks unto God, I feel a better this morning. As I was driving down the highway this morning, the thought came to my mind – materialism vs. happiness. Last night as chilled in bed, I watched the show, “Basketball Wives” – that was different. As I looked at the life that these women live, a part of me became sad for them. They had all of these beautiful things (materialism), but wasn’t neither one of them happy. Now I’m not saying that you shouldn’t obtain nice things, because God knows, I love nice things, but having nice things and being happy, are two different conditions. As I continued to watch these women, and by all means, I’m not being judgmental, because I know they have paid a price in order to obtain all of what they have, but I had to wonder, if they didn’t have all of that, would they be any happier. And then this dropped in my spirit: having every piece of materialism that we desire, and being able to do whatever we feel like when we want to, doesn’t make us any more happy, or special, than who God has already created us to be. Baby we were infused with greatness long before those “so-called famous people” ever came into our lives. Therefore, whether you have these things or not, happiness should always come from within. Materialism should never make us, we make it. If you think about it, materialism has no life until we purchase it, and bring it alive by the way we wear it, drive it, or decorate it. Materialism should never represent the true essence of us; only we can do that. My mother told me years ago, when my husband left me with a newborn baby, “happiness baby, starts from within, it doesn’t come in the form of people or what they can do for you. She went on further to say, “people will come in and out your life until the day die; you mean to tell me when they leave, your happiness goes right out the door with them.” I never forgot that. So, as I finished watching the show, I said, please dear God, never allow me to be driven by materialism, to the point, I forget who I am, because whether I have those things or not, I’m still going to be happy, and me. What are you going to be? Peace & Love…
