Happy Monday – Well ladies, I did it – I did my radio interview for Reflections66 with Literary Diva’s Doll House, without fumbling over my words. Yeahhh!!!! Okay, now that I have gotten out of the way, how are you guys doing? Did you have a good weekend? Despite the wind, it was beautiful. Although mine was busy: my baby son’s football game, radio interview, Del State homecoming, and my great niece (cute as a button) being dedicated back to the Lord, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This afternoon, I wanted to share something with you that really made me think over the weekend – Illiteracy vs. Literacy. Saturday as I was interviewing with Literary Diva, she brought out some very important points concerning people and reading, but one that stuck out in particular, was the one where she stated how illiteracy affects millions of people. And I got to thinking, what do we do to help people who we know cannot read or write. As she stated, “illiteracy, literally affects every aspect of our lives.” Wow.
I don’t know what kind of programs your city may have for those who need help in this area, but I will say, if you know of someone who struggles with this, in your own way, try and help them to find a way to become literate; no matter what the age. If you have children, encourage them to read more. Start making day trips to the Library until it becomes like second nature – we’ve gotten so far away from that. Video games have kind of taken that away from our children. But as parents, we have the power to steer them back to the basics.
Reading and writing are such powerful tools to have. When we read, we expand our mind, and when write, we put into words the expansion that reading has done for us. It’s like the two go hand in hand.
In closing, although the interview Saturday was something to give my book, Reflections66, exposure, I left the interview focusing more on those who could not read and write. When you think about it, it’s disheartening, because reading alone is powerful, but when you merge the two together, there is no stopping you in the things that you can do with these tools.
If you haven’t picked up a book, magazine or newspaper in a while, pick up one and read! For those who have struggles in this area, check your local libraries, and find out how you can get help. Read!!!! Peace & Love
