Happy Wednesday – Hey sisters, what’s happening! It is “hump day”. That means we are two days away from the weekend. Can you say yes? Today, I wanted to share something short and sweet, yet, poignant when you think about it. Every day at work, I listen to WDAS.FM, a radio station that I grew up on in Philadelphia. While I was shoveling papers, changing schedules, and sending emails, a song came on by Fantasia called, “I’m Doing Me” – a song where she is telling someone, it’s not that I don’t want to be loved, but I don’t need your craziness and drama in order to be with you. As I was grooving to the song, she said a lyric that caught my attention, and I immediately wanted to relay it to you. This particular line of the song can be used, in any friendship/relationship, (whether intimate or platonic) that you may find yourself being taking advantage of: “I’m doing me this time around; I won’t let your drama bring me down.”
Clearly in this song, she is talking about an intimate relationship, but I wanted to take it a step further. When you say those words, it gives you a sense of independence, and self worth. “Doing me” alone, are liberating words. So with that being said, I want you to think about, and internalize those words, and after you have done that, start thinking about the people you need to remove who constantly bring you drama and are damaging to your character. Start doing you sis, and enjoy the journey of knowing what you want, and what’s best for you. Remember, you deserve the best; and not some of the time, but all of the time.
Enjoy the rest of your day. Peace and Love….
